Fractures of the calcaneus

چکیده

Objectives 1. Describe the anatomy of the calcaneus; including the articular facets and their orientation, the sustentaculum tali, and the apophysis 2. Describe the ossification of the calcaneus, and differences between the immature and adult calcaneus 3. Describe a classification system of calcaneal fractures useful for assessing such fractures in the immature foot 4. Discuss the imaging of a suspected fracture of the calcaneus, including useful views with conventional radiography, salient features of their interpretation, and/or other imaging modalities 5. Describe diagnosis and management of the toddler's fracture of the calcaneus 6. Discuss a treatment approach to displaced fractures of the immature calcaneus 7. Discuss prognosis for fractures of the immature calcaneus

Treatment of displaced intra-articular calcaneus fractures: a current concepts review

Displaced Intra-Articular Calcaneus fractures (DIACFs) represent a source of tremendous disability to the patient, economic burden to the society and a treatment challenge to the average orthopaedic surgeon. To date, no single approach is universally applicable to all calcaneus fractures. Despite a plethora of published meta-analyses and recent randomized controlled trials, the literature is st...

Avulsion fractures of the calcaneus.

Fractures of the calcaneus [os calcis] have received much attention because a large number involve the subtalar joint and frequently lead to chronic pain and osteoarthritic changes. Fractures not involving the subtalar joint are well recognised, but little attention has been directed to avulsion fractures except to differentiate them from the beak fracture, which is regarded as a separate entit...

Dual-incision approach for repair of peroneal tendon dislocation associated with fractures of the calcaneus.

Dislocation of the peroneal tendons associated with calcaneus fractures should be repaired during fracture fixation to prevent complications. The only documented approach for repair is by proximal extension of the vertical limb of the lateral extensile approach to the calcaneus. However, enlarging the inherently fragile calcaneus flap places it at further risk of damage. Using a separate anteri...

Radiological predictive factors for the outcome of surgically treated calcaneus fractures.

Calcaneus fractures are fairly common and clinically relevant due to their poor outcome. Thus, solving the controversy regarding treatment and outcome prediction should be a target. This study intends to evaluate the predictive ability of common radiologic tools for the surgical outcome of calcaneus fractures, regardless of treatment modality. 44 patients' records, with operated calcaneus fract...

Open reduction and internal fixation of calcaneus fractures through a sinus tarsi approach

Introduction: The wound complication rate for open reduction and internal fixation of calcaneus fractures through the extensile approach is 30%. Due to this high rate of wound complications, many surgeons prefer conservative management. If post-traumatic arthritis develops, the clinical results of a subtalar fusion are better if the posterior facet is reduced and the shape of the calcaneus rest...
